THERAPEUTIC FLY-FISHING WITH EMDR (TF-EMDR)℠ & THE SEIYU-ZURI METHOD℠

"EVENTUALLY, ALL THINGS MERGE INTO ONE AND A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT" - MACLEAN

CASTING AWAY THE WEIGHT OF TRAUMA

CWW & Seiyu IHT are the home of Therapeutic Fly-fishing with EMDR (TF-EMDR)℠, developed and as published by Clinical Director Tony Parmenter here.
More than just casting with eye movements, this method turns fly-fishing into an integrative psychotherapy. It provides a way to conceptualize the connection of fly-fishing's well known benefits and Evidence-Based Psychotherapy without each being done independently.
We know that fly-fishing and psychotherapy can help a person heal, so why has it taken so long to integrate them? We don't know why, but now it's possible! If you are interested in experiencing Therapeutic Fly-fishing with EMDR (TF-EMDR) ℠, contact Tony here.

THERAPEUTIC FLY FISHING WITH EMDR (TF-EMDR)℠

Therapeutic Fly-fishing with EMDR (TF-EMDR)℠ turns fly-fishing into psychotherapy for trauma. It provides a way to link fly-fishing's well known benefits to an evidence-based psychotherapy without each being done separately from one another.
What we are answering: fly-fishing, using rod & reel methods, has become a common adjunct activity for helping people who are in treatment for  traumatic stress and related problems such as addiction and behavioral compulsions. Although done as fly-fishing on it's own, and often by non-mental health professionals, a number of programs focused on working with military veterans and first responders have taken root throughout North America, Europe, and Australia. We feel that in order to work with trauma, fly-fishing should be linked to a proven therapy for PTSD, and facilitated by a trained mental health professional.
Therapeutic Fly-fishing with EMDR (TF-EMDR)℠ conceptualizes ways to conduct evidence-based trauma WHILE fly-fishing - as done by trained mental health professionals.

FREEDOM IN SINCERITY, FREEDOM ON THE FLY: THE SEIYU-ZURI METHOD℠

Recovery is possible and wholeness is within you. With your feet on the ground, the wind on your skin, and feeling the current with your body - experience the freedom of catch and release while letting go of your pain. Developed by Tony Parmenter as the first form of TF-EMDR, Seiyu-zuri is also the only known method of specifically integrating an Evidence-Based Psychotherapy with a nature-based intervention to enhance wellbeing. As an individual method, is the first way of using fly-fishing specifically to treat trauma (a group method is in use, but not yet published).
This method integrates EMDR and other evidence-based approaches to include mindfulness practices, somatic engagement, and Eastern & Western cognitive psychology with a simple (and portable) form of Japanese fly-fishing called tenkara . The name Seiyu-zuri indicates living with integrity and purpose as the word "Seiyu" (say-you) can mean "having sincerity" in Japanese ("zuri" means "fishing" in English).
The goal is to use a mindful connection with nature to connect with and bolster your natural healing abilities. With Seiyu-zuri, you will engage in a healing practice that can become a part of your life moving forward, lasting longer than the therapy session itself.

TF-EMDR TRAINING FOR EMDR THERAPISTS

Create a wide open space for your clients to cast away the weight of trauma.
Learn the basics of the model developed by Tony Parmenter, as described in the Journal of Military & Veterans Health (2022).
Along with learning how to incorporate fly-fishing into personal EMDR practice, trained EMDR therapists learn additional techniques for helping clients create a healing connecting between their own nervous system and the natural world. The act of fishing is just one part of using EMDR in this way. With your own sense of creativity and adventure, bringing EMDR into nature can allow a fun, engaging, peaceful, and long-lasting healing experience for your clients.
TF-EMDR trainings offer EMDRIA Continuing Education hours for EMDRIA-trained (or equivalent) EMDR therapists, and can be custom designed if needed.
Are you interested in taking this step? Contact Tony to get started.
